GTP constructs dinning hall for Tema Community 4 No. 2 primary
Tema 1st February, 2017: Tex Styles Ghana Ltd, producer of GTP & Woodin fabrics have handed over a newly built and fully furnished canteen block to the Community 4 Number 2 Primary School in Tema.
The project was initiated in May 2016 as part of initiatives to mark the company’s golden jubilee celebration. The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Erik van der Staaij who inaugurated the project said the construction of the canteen was a way of saying a big THANK YOU to the Community for hosting the company so well for the past 50 years.
He mentioned the source of inspiration for constructing the block as being the fact that the school children had no proper eating place. The project he said, will impact directly on the health and wellbeing of school children. The building is fitted with tables and chairs, sinks with running water and soap to wash their hands.
The MD mentioned that the project was funded by the personal contributions of all the employees of GTP with support from the Company. Not only did the company provide the funds, but more importantly, their skilled craftsmen (designers, masons, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and painters) designed and built this block and the furniture inside.
Speaking at the ceremony, the former MD of Tex Styles Ghana Ltd, Mr. Kofi Boateng who cut sod for the construction last year underscored the need to support the school to improve teaching and learning.
The visibly elated Headmistress of the school, Mad. Grace Asiedu – Danquah thanked the company for the kind gesture and called on other firms to emulate the action of GTP in elevating the status of the school. She further added that the block will also play an important educational and modeling role for healthy eating habits among students.
Representatives of the Member of Parliament for the area, Ghana Education Service and the Parent Teacher Association of the School took turns to congratulate GTP for the gesture.
The keys to the building were handed over to the Tema Metropolitan Director of Education.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
